Downspouts and Elbows

Extensions and Splash Blocks
Extensions move discharge farther from the foundation, while splash blocks help spread water and reduce soil erosion.

How far should a downspout extension reach?
The distance depends on grading, soil, landscaping, walkways, and where water can drain safely. The goal is to keep discharge from pooling against the foundation.
Can another downspout be added?
Often, yes. An additional outlet and downspout can reduce the amount of water each existing drainage point must handle, but placement should follow the gutter pitch and property drainage plan.
Why does water leak from a gutter corner?
The corner seal may have failed, the joint may be damaged, or standing water may be stressing the seam. The gutter pitch and nearby outlet should be checked along with the sealant.
